Our Story

From the day it was founded in 1991 by local entrepreneur Tom Salonek, Intertech has been a company with an important difference: unwavering commitment to customers, employees and the broader community through excellent work, smart workplace and financial management, and creative philanthropic involvement.

This commitment has been rewarded with highly loyal customers and employees, which has fueled the company’s impressive growth. Under the leadership of CEO Salonek and Intertech Partner Ryan McCabe, Intertech has grown into a technology powerhouse that puts people first. With nearly $12 million in revenue for 2012, Intertech is the largest combined software developer training company and research-supported consulting firm in Minnesota.

Intertech designs and develops software solutions that power Fortune 500 businesses, mid-sized companies and state government. Intertech also works with major organizations such as NASA, Medtronic, Microsoft, the Mayo Foundation, and Intel around the United States helping their IT professionals to learn and use technology.

With the company’s expansion, hiring has been steady. Today there are over 50 employees and an additional 30 full-time contractors working on behalf of Intertech. Salonek and McCabe expect those numbers to continue increasing. A new 13,000-square-foot building in Eagan, Minnesota was purchased and renovated by Intertech and completed in 2012. That space already is “getting tight,” which is why Intertech recently purchased an adjacent lot next to Intertech’s current headquarters at 1575 Thomas Center Drive.

Intertech team members are frequently published in magazines, online websites, and are requested to speak at conferences. CEO Tom Salonek published the book, “Building a Winning Business” in 2011, which summarizes the successful management practices used at Intertech, as well as lessons learned through his executive education work at Harvard School of Business and MIT Sloan.

Intertech has received over 35 state and national awards. One dozen awards were for being a great place to work, including being a finalist in the prestigious Wall Street Journal award for “Winning Workplaces” and the Minnesota 2008 Minnesota Work Life Champion Award, for promoting healthy work and life balance. Intertech also has received 16 awards for fast growth, five awards for being a “top company” and several other awards for community impact, and sound financial and communications practices (complete awards list is posted below). In 2005 Salonek was recognized as one of the “40 Under 40” top leaders in Minnesota.

To date, Intertech has given more than $175,000 to the company’s charitable Foundation which supports the local Ronald McDonald House and families staying at the house.
