This is the final post related to the Emotional and Social Competency Inventory. The last set of inventory questions are on teamwork. One aspect of teamwork is recognition. At Intertech, we’ve worked to institutionalize recognition.
Our program is called ACE. It’s an acronym for our values of Attitude, Commitment, and Excellence. The ACE program:
- Reinforces our values
- Gets everyone involved with recognition
- Makes our values come alive
When someone goes above and beyond and living our values, they fire me an email with an “ACE nomination.” The nomination summarizes what the nominee did to receive this recognition. ACEs get recognized in our weekly employee newsletter. At our quarterly all company meeting, we have a drawing for gift cards. To be eligible, you have to be a nominator or nominee. A person’s name goes “into the hat” each time they get nominated or nominate someone.
The final part of our program is the ACE awards. At the start of each year, we recognize:
- The Top ACE. The person who received the most ACE nominations.
- The Top ACE Nominator. The person nominated a peer… I would argue this is as important as being the nominee.
- The Top Rookie ACE. Someone who’s been with us under a year and is the top nominee in their peer group.
