Project Requirements

When a company’s success is tied to its tax consultation services and the loans they provide based on the expected tax returns from these services, the software application doing the calculations and tracking has to be flawless. Add the constantly changing state requirements that affect these numbers, and you have the potential for a software solution that is efficient or frustrating. Unfortunately, the custom application that the client was using to track returns and loans had several bug fixes that needed attention. With no internal development team, hiring a contractor or employee to diagnose and resolve them would have taken months. Instead, the client turned to Intertech to solve the problem quickly. Additionally, they hoped to add new features to their tax return and loan tracking application to increase employee productivity but were unsure if it was possible.


The application used across the company by multiple employees now works predictably and consistently. Before the fix, employees were manually scanning database rows to ensure loan statuses were saved correctly. Now employees can rest easy and spend time on value-added tasks, knowing that the customer data in the database is correct, and successfully tracked.


Working remotely, Intertech diagnosed the issues with the codebase and evaluated the requested new features interns of integration. Initially, this began with a walkthrough of how users are currently interacting with the application. Consistently reproducing the bug was the first significant challenge of the project, as no one internally knew which parts of the codebase might be causing the errors.

Applying a test-driven methodology, Intertech added some new functionality and built a set of tests for various scenarios. Refining the test suite and working with the client’s team to replicate multiple use cases allowed us to pinpoint and resolve the original bugs. Next, Intertech moved on to implementing new features around loan reconciliation following final payment and ensuring that paid-in-full loans correctly saved to the database.

At the outset, the client committed to a two-week engagement with Intertech. However, realizing that Intertech was an effective and reliable partner that is easy to work with, the original two-week contract was expanded to five months, with the client considering Intertech a partner for the future.
