A national high-end fitness company requested a user-friendly web site that matched the quality of its fitness centers. Specifically, the new site needed to make it easy for prospective members to shop and purchase club memberships via the web. Intertech partnered with the client’s internal IT department to develop a robust new site capable of meeting the challenge. This satisfied client subsequently has engaged Intertech for multiple new IT projects.
Not every IT project involves complex applications or programming gymnastics, but every project’s objectives must be handled with precision, good communication and dedicated team work. This project, on behalf of a Minnesota-based national fitness center chain, exemplifies the “focus on fundamentals” that wins Intertech deeply satisfied clients and long-term client relationships.
With fitness centers in 19 U.S. states and Canada, the client’s brand has been built on excellence and providing a high-end fitness experience. The client decided it was time to bring its membership sales function up to the same high standards. Before Intertech was engaged, sales depended upon prospective members physically coming to a club location, taking a tour and then signing up or emailing information to a representative for later follow up. This traditional sales approach was considered burdensome by certain prospective customers who knew what they wanted and preferred a streamlined online new membership process.
A four-person team from Intertech spearheaded the project to create a robust and user-friendly online membership enrollment process. The Intertech team worked closely on site with the client to develop a thorough understanding of its membership model, which involved partnering with the client’s sales/marketing team members.
The actual application involved working in tandem with the client’s Business Analysts, Project Managers and the lead architect on site to deliver the solution. A variety of technologies were employed, including: Java, J2EE, Google Web Toolkit (GWT), Weblogic, SOAP web services, and Less CSS. Close collaboration, intensive communication and professional teamwork enabled all parties to work effectively and efficiently together, meeting the project’s deliverable goals on time and within budget.
The resulting secure online membership enrollment application allows a prospective member to shop on line for the proper club membership and then execute an on-line purchase of that membership. This has reduced hassles and barriers for savvy, highly motivated new customers, which reflects well on the client and lays the foundation for a satisfying relationship with the fitness center for new members.
