A global marine manufacturer engaged Intertech to produce a web tool capable of analyzing proprietary diagnostics on the web. Our expert Intertech consultants created an integration that allows for real-time remote diagnostics of engines and equipment. As a result, highly-trained subject matter experts can now remotely support and troubleshoot the client’s products from the comfort of a web browser.
Providing accurate diagnostics on engines is a challenge, particularly when experts working at corporate headquarters are not able to see what the technicians are seeing as they work on engines across the world. The client wanted to be able to diagnose engine problems from a central location and allow technicians to share they were experiencing on the ground with experts back at headquarters.
The client didn’t have internal development resources with the required skill set to implement a web app like this. Intertech consultants supplemented the client’s development team and brought much-needed expertise in .NET, React, and D3. The solution needed to work on a variety of platforms and provide several diagnostic tools.
The project is an extension of earlier work with the client using Raspberry Pi to transmit real-time video of remote maintenance and repairs. For this new web application phase, Intertech’s consultants started by researching options for performing analytics over the web, including several requirement constraints. From there, the consultants implemented a custom tool to centrally store and analyze recording files.
Our consultants, after reviewing several alternatives, decided on a React application using D3 as its visual language. The backend was written as a WebAPI solution using .NET Core. The viewer allows technicians to upload recordings that can be analyzed from any operating system and browser.
Intertech’s developers were able to work remotely from our Eagan, Minnesota offices, saving the client the overhead of travel time and office space for consultants. As needed, Intertech consultants were available for meetings and updates throughout the course of the project to make sure the application met the needs of all stakeholders.
A continuation of our earlier work with this client, the new application extends the ways the client can support their products around the world. Subject matter experts at the client’s headquarters can now access and diagnose/troubleshoot data seamlessly with technicians on location, anywhere in the world. As a result, expertise is now available globally and service quality and speed has improved dramatically.
In addition, Intertech’s solution plays nice with the client’s existing tools, integrating well with current service and maintenance workflows. Intertech’s research and consultation helped discover and design a solution that would integrate with existing on-premise software to make a turnkey solution with an intuitive user experience.
From the day it was founded in 1991 by local entrepreneur Tom Salonek, Intertech has been a company with an important difference: unwavering commitment to customers, employees and the broader community through excellent work, smart workplace and financial management, and creative philanthropic involvement.
