Migrating Customer Facing Solution to an iOS-Based Mobile Platform
Project Requirements
Our client, a leading agriculture software solution provider used by Gallo, Constellation Brands, Treasury Wine Estates, Del Monte Foods, Opus One, and many others, already had an existing mobile application. Unfortunately, it was built on the Windows CE platform that was no longer supported. In addition to this, it was becoming increasingly difficult to find devices on which their legacy mobile application would run. Not surprisingly, most of AgCode’s clients demanded an iOS-based solution due to the prevalence of iOS devices. However, AgCode’s excellent IT team did not have expertise with iOS at that time. Intertech was engaged in creating a new iOS version of AgCode’s existing AM3 product. Time was a challenge since the new product needed to be completed quickly to accommodate planning for the upcoming growing season.
Result
Intertech provided a robust version of the client’s premier customer solution, AM3, which could be delivered both as an iPhone and iPad application. The new mobile version addressed strong customer demand to accommodate critical planning processes for the impending growing season. Intertech staff also worked with their internal development team to transfer important iOS development expertise and knowledge to maintain the system internally.
Overview
By 2050, the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) predicts the world’s population will reach 9 billion, a 34% jump over current totals. For our client to adapt to the increasing world population growth, they decided to turn to Intertech to adjust their business operations by migrating to a mobile-based platform, resulting in increased efficiency and productivity. Intertech developed a new release of AM3, an aging but business-critical product compatible with current smartphone & tablet technologies. The new mobile AM3 for iPhone was built and optimized for mobile technology to support all levels of farm operations. AM3 is designed around an efficient and effective data collection process, including pesticide reporting and labor management. AM3 for iPhone allows for the complete Field Inspection and Scorecard functionality, while AM3 for iPad provides robust data entry for all production activities to take data entry and field productivity to a new level. Data can easily be collected in the field and then optimized to provide business intelligence and production data to a farmer’s back office.
