Project Requirements
A corporation supporting well over 100 custom applications, the client turned to Intertech for help modernizing the applications and its approach to software development. Many of the applications had aged to the point of needing to be replaced. In addition, the client needed assistance streamlining their internal development process and implementing an agile philosophy for their dev team.
Updating the client’s process and a myriad of applications was challenge enough. However, the client also needed the modernization to not disrupt daily business operations at their offices around the world and wanted to roll out frequent updates with minimal impact on uptime.
Result
The result of Intertech’s consulting is a more efficient rollout process for new updates. The client can now update their applications with greater frequency and fewer errors, even during normal working hours.
Our Intertech consultants provided both code expertise and high-level business thinking about technology decisions to help the client’s head of technology make sound decisions about new technologies and reduce risk while planning future growth.
Overview
Intertech’s relationship with the client began with our expert consultant, Tim Star, helping the client implement agile development methodologies for their internal team. Tim came on board as a scrum master, leading the implementation and adoption of agile.
Shortly after that, the client engaged Intertech to investigate and recommend options for future Javascript development. Specifically, Intertech’s consultants ran tests and provided technology change consulting to compare React and Angular frameworks for the client’s applications.
Working with the client, Intertech supported the client’s choice of Angular for the front end and .NET Core for the backend logic of new applications. Intertech also leveraged a microservice architecture for shared assets that are being used by other applications. Our consultants ensured the model application architecture could support unit testing, and the release pipeline executes these tests before automated deployment to production.
Three of our consultants worked full time at the client’s offices. They integrated with several of the client’s development teams on multiple applications and provided the ground support to push all of the applications closer to the new model architecture.
The new continuous integration and deployment pipeline that Intertech recommended and helped implement allows the client to deploy new code to production in the middle of a workday with little to no disruption, reducing risk, increasing efficiency, and preparing them for the future.
