Press Release: Internet Application Developed by Intertech Software Inspires Federal Legislation by Sen. Paul Wellstone

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Cindy Bielke CAB Communications 651-683-1910 cab@millcomm.com Internet Application Developed by Intertech Software Inspires Federal Legislation by Sen. Paul Wellstone The Intertech Software custom "Day One" software represents the first Internet-based network in the state to link battered women's shelters Eagan, Minn. -Aug. 31, 2000- Intertech Software, a leading Twin Cities-based e- business and e-commerce consulting company, today announced that the "Minnesota Day One" Internet-based system the company created on behalf of Alexandra House, and other non-profit shelters for battered women in Minnesota, has inspired Sen. Paul Wellstone (D-MN) to seek funds for a similar national Internet network. The Day One system enables 22 battered women shelters in Minnesota to quickly and easily communicate with each other – and the women they serve – on available space and other important shelter-specific information through a central, secure, updateable repository that works over the Internet. Previously, the shelters used a cumbersome daily fax system for such communication. Sen. Wellstone's legislative initiative was announced today during a press conference at Minnesota's state capitol in St. Paul. Sen. Wellstone said his act, which will be introduced in the upcoming congressional session, seeks to provide funds to develop the software currently being used by Minnesota shelters into a similar national system. "We envision a confidential, continuously updated Internet-based network of available space in every domestic violence shelter in the country," Wellstone said. "And it seems very appropriate that the model for this system was developed by a Minnesota technology company, Intertech Software. Minnesota long has been known for its compassion and technical savvy. The Day One initiative is a fine example of both of those attributes in commonsense action." Intertech Software worked closely with staff at Alexandra House, Inc., which coordinates the Day One system on behalf of the other state shelters, to design and develop the system. Intertech Software created the Internet-based system completely from scratch (no "off the shelf" software was used). "Day One is a straight-forward Internet-based software application that is fast and easy to use. Shelters can immediately update the system as availability changes, providing critical information to women in need on a 24/7 basis," said Alexandra House Inc. Director and Minnesota Day One co-founder Pat Prinzevallia. "This has made a huge difference in our ability to quickly provide women in crisis with the vital information they need to break away from abusive situations." Intertech Software CEO and founder Tom Salonek said, "Intertech Software was delighted to put our technical expertise and business experience to work for such a good cause. We're obviously very happy that the work we've done in Minnesota has the potential to be expanded into a national information network serving all the battered women's shelters in the country. Kudos to the Minnesota Battered Women Shelters, United Way of Minneapolis Area and the Allina Foundation for initiating this exciting program, and to Sen. Wellstone for having the vision and leadership to elevate it to a national level."
