MORE ON BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE TRAINING

It all begins with planning, which is why our SQL Server Business Intelligence training spends considerable time on each step in the planning process: interviewing, documenting the requirements, locating data, defining the roles and team, determining the schedule and more.

SQL Server Business Intelligence training at Intertech teaches students to design a data warehouse and a data mart, starting with a typical OLTP database design – including normalized tables, table relationships, many-to-many tables, one-to-many tables and parent-child one-to-many tables. Their exploration of a typical data warehouse database design covers measures, the fact table and dimensions, before moving onto to stars and snowflakes, dimensional patterns, conformed dimensions, adding surrogate keys and slowing changing dimensions.

Creating a data warehouse comprises a major component of our SQL Server Business Intelligence training. Students review SQL Server management studio, configuration manager, management studio windows, creating a data warehouse database, creating tables and a date dimension table. A review of ETL processing with SQL is included: performing the ETL programming, deciding on full or incremental loading, isolating the data to be extracted, identifying transformation logic, programming transformation logic and so on.

Students in our SQL Server BI training learn about beginning the ETL process with SSIS, including starting an SSIS project and adding a project to an existing solution. They cover renaming an SSIS package, the anatomy of an SSIS package (control flow tab, data flow tab, using sequence containers, using precedence constraint arrows, SSIS variables and outing the ETL process), data connections, executing SQL tasks, progress/execution results tabs and resetting the destination database.

As Intertech’s SQL Server BI training progresses, students gain an understanding of concluding the ETL process with SSIS and then move on to the SSAS project. They look at SQL Server vs. analysis server databases, data sources, source views and dimensions (dimension wizards). Also covered is configuring dimensions with SSAS and creating and configuring SSAS cubes: browser tabs, cube structure tabs, dimension usage tabs, the calculation tab and much more. In addition, they explore additional cube and dimension configurations: actions, partitions, aggregations, perspectives, translations and browser.

Creating reports with SQL queries is a major topic area in our SQL Server Business Intelligence training. This includes identifying the data, joining table data, ordering results, formatting results using SQL functions, filtering results, etc. The course concludes with time spent on reporting with MDX queries, reporting with Microsoft Excel, creating and configuring reports with SSRS, testing and tuning BI solutions and the end of cycle process.
